VISUALIZING HAWAII’S RENEWABLE ENERGY USAGE

Anuhea Elliott

My name is Anuhea Elliott, I was born in Boston, MA and I have lived in Waimea, HI for most of my life. I have attended Hawaii Preparatory Academy since my freshman year and plan to go to college in the Mid West or East Coast. At HPA, I am the co-founder and head of the Global Issues Club, have done work in diversity, equity, and inclusion, and am an active memebr in the sustainability and coding club. I have participated in a varsity sport every season of every year including Cross-Country, Wrestling, Tennis, and Track and Field. I love spending time with my friends and family being outside or learning something new. My main acedemic interests include economics, energy and sustainability, business, applied mathematics, and data science.

Abstract

My capstone project focuses on collecting and creating data visualizations to map Hawaii island’s progress in reaching the state goal of having 100% renewable energy by 2045. I have used the software platform Tableau along with various state websites to create my data visualizations on topics such as electric car growth, types of renewable energy, energy abundance, and energy use throughout the Big Island. Furthermore, I have taught classes at the Village Camput (4th grade) about what renewable energy is, what the state’s renewable energy goal means for them, and how they can save energy within their homes. I look forward to continuing my journey in learning about renewable energy in college and beyond.
